Configuring Hauptwerk for iPad Control

The following instructions are based on a specific layout for St. Anne’s Moseley Organ using a MacBook Pro loaded on an iPad, but should be similar for other layouts, organ sets, or other Midi Designer (MD) functions. Operating with Windows is described in the MD User Manual.

Detailed instructions are provided in                        Note:   This document may need updating for a specific layout.

Select 'Get in Touch' to request the .mididesigner file. You can request an MD design for your organ and specific controls and layout. Midi Designer is very flexible.

Following are abbreviated instructions.

When you first Connect HW to an MD layout, you have to “teach” Hauptwerk the Midi Messages generated by MD (or vice-versa).

Note: If you want to keep your current Midi assignments in the organ, you can "Learn" MD from the organ.

It is recommended you backup Hauptwerk before you begin.

There are several different MD buttons used:

  • Toggle: Tap turns On, next tap turns Off such as Stops and Couplers

  • Momentary: Tap selects functions such as Master General Pistons

  • Stepper: displays Cued Combo Setting (on MD only)

  • Cued Combo buttons: Used to display Cued Combo selection. These buttons are not activated by touch, only by tapping the UP or DOWN buttons. Programming of Cued Combo is defined in the Hauptwerk Manual.

Note These buttons can be labeled for specific registrations such as Baroque, Prelude, Offertory, song names, etc.
